Hank must have really loved this song. It's raw and beautiful here just as it is but hank took it to another level.

The restoring of the Willard Robison heritage will be extremely difficult. I have no idea where manuscripts and such may be. On this one, the questionable word in the line "When village bells ring out of that cool {?}" is "eveningtide" followed by: "The heart goes warm and so, satisfied."

The song is beautiful but the lyrics are sublime. Nostalgia and heartache. We never know why this is a lost love but the most cherished part of life remains a divine memory.

Sam, you sure do look like you've got the miseries Man, I ain't got no miseries, I've got the blues That's whats matter with me Birds singing in the trees and the sun is shining You shouldn't have no blues I know I shouldn't have 'em; but, but I got Every known indication of being in that condition What's the matter, did they lock up your bootlegger? No, it wasn't that I went home this morning and peeped through the window And that little sweet thing of mine had done called out So, now I got them lovesick blues I′m in love, I'm in love, I′m in love with a beautiful gal That's what's the matter with me I′m in love, I′m in love, with a beautiful gal But she don't give a darn about me To make her love me I tried, How I sighed and I cried But she just refused And ever since my momma gone away, I've got those lovesick blues Got the feeling called the "blue hoo′s," Since my momma said "Good Bye" Seems I don't know what to "Do Hoo" All day long I sit and cry That last long day we spent alone I′m yearning for it yet She thrilled me, filled me, With a kind of lovin', I never will forget, the way she called me sweet daddy" Twas just a beautiful dream I hate to think that it's all over I lost my heart it seems I got so used to her somehow But I′m no body′s baby Now, gee it's awful when you′re lonesome And get those lovesick blue-oo-oo-oo-oo's Got the feeling called the "blue hoo′s," Since my sweetie said "Good Bye" Seems I don't know what to "Do Hoo" All day long I sit and cry That last long day we spent alone I′m yearning for it yet She thrilled me, filled me, With a kind of lovin', I never will forget, the way she called me sweet daddy Twas just a beautiful dream I hate to think that it's all over I lost my heart it seems I got so used to her somehow But I′m no body′s baby Now, gee it's awful when you′re lonesome And get those lovesick blue-oo-oo-oo-oo's

Just watch the sunrise on the other side of town Once more I've waited and once more you've let me down This would be a perfect time for me to die So I'd like to take this opportunity to cry You gave your word now I return it to you With this suggestion as to what you can do Just exchange the words I love you for goodbye While I take this opportunity to cry I'd like to see you but I'm afraid That I don't know wrong from right And if I saw you would I kiss you Or want to kill you on sight It's been a long night so I think I'll go home And feed my nightmares they've been waiting all night long They'll be the last ones to tell me goodbye They'll give me many opportunities to cry Well, I'd like to see you but I'm afraid That I don't know wrong from right And if I saw you would I kiss you Or want to kill you on sight...

Emmett miller was an exception among black faces: first, he was a man from Georgia, in the deepest of Deep South, and he felt the deepest black blues from within his soul .. Seconde: never forget whites, mainly in the North never knew or approached a black man, so this blackface was the closest they ever came to meet black manAND his music ... And musically, his genius influenced many great country singers (they always recognized his long lasting influence): Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard Bob Wills ... They always re"cognized the man's genius and his heavy influence on all of them ... LONG LIVE THE ONE AND ONLY EMMETT MILLER ...

lol you’re sentence about ppl in the north never having seen or been near blacks could not be more wrong. Do some research dude, there were tons of black in the north by this time and believe it or not, even during slavery days, there were both free and enslaved blacks I. The north playing CLASSICAL MUSIC. Mind boggling isn’t it?

People saying this was “accepted” at the time need to go back look read what black newspapers of that time said about how demeaning blackface was. Even black performers in blackface only did so as a financial necessity to work and they were seen as sell outs. Weird how actual black people’s feelings do not register to blackface apologist.
